Right now, Congress is considering a proposal that would cut $880 billion from Medicaid—a devastating move that puts the health and well-being of millions of Americans at risk. Here in Ohio, 3 million people depend on Medicaid.
At Groundwork Ohio, we are sounding the alarm because this isn’t just about numbers—it’s about real families.
Medicaid Is a Lifeline for Young Children
Medicaid plays a vital role in keeping Ohio children healthy during their most critical years of development.
Nearly half of all Ohio children under age six rely on Medicaid for health coverage.
In 41 counties across the state—many in rural and Appalachian regions—more than 50% of young children count on Medicaid to access regular checkups, developmental screenings, and care when they need it most.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. Losing this coverage would create serious gaps in care and long-term consequences for children’s health, development, and school readiness.
Real Stories, Real Impact
We encourage you to hear directly from Ohio moms, Whitney and Deanna, who share how Medicaid has supported their families during difficult times. Their stories bring this issue to life and show why Medicaid is essential to keeping children healthy and families stable.
