Business Innovation in Child Care Spotlight: Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation

Groundwork Ohio, in partnership with the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, has released a new resource, Business Innovation in Child Care: Case Studies Across Ohio, highlighting how businesses across the state are advancing child care solutions for their employees and communities. In the weeks ahead, we'll be spotlighting these efforts—sharing examples of initiatives taking place across Ohio.

The Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation was established in 1996 to fund initiatives that empower women and girls in Richland County. In 2018, the Fund conducted a survey and held focus groups to better understand the needs of local women. Access to affordable child care was cited as one of the biggest barriers to women participating in the workforce, becoming economically mobile and advancing in their careers.

The Women’s Fund has a nearly $3 million endowment. Since 2019, it has awarded $338,000 to increase access to child care and improve quality at programs. Begun by a core of 10 Richland County women, the fund accepts donations and occasionally organizes fundraisers.
