OUR WORK

Federal Advocacy

While Groundwork Ohio is a statewide organization dedicated to advancing policies that benefit young children and families across Ohio, we recognize that federal decisions often have significant impacts at the local level. When national policies threaten the health, well-being, or opportunity of Ohio’s youngest children and their families, we are called to raise our voice, advocate for change, and ensure Ohio’s needs are represented in the federal conversation.

Head Start

Head Start is the nation’s premiere early learning program and is helping Ohio parents work while preparing kids to succeed. Trusted local organizations receive federal funding to design and run services for children from birth to age five who are living in poverty, in foster care, or experiencing homelessness.

Child Care & Development Block Grant

The Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) is the largest source of federal funding for child care in Ohio. It helps low-income working families afford safe, reliable child care so parents can stay in the workforce and children can learn and grow in quality settings.

Protect Medicaid

Three million children and adults here in Ohio depend on Medicaid. That includes nearly half of Ohio’s children under age six, and over 50% of young children in many rural and Appalachian counties who depend on Medicaid for access to basic health care.

Medicaid is a lifeline for Ohio children and families.
