Early Childhood Experts Testify on the Vital Role of Quality Early Education

On Wednesday, the Ohio Legislative Study Committee on Ohio’s Publicly Funded Child Care and Step Up To Quality Program heard testimony from early childhood professionals, researchers, and community leaders on the importance of quality early learning programs to the success of Ohio’s children, families, and economy.

The need to increase access to quality, affordable child care has never been more urgent. As the strong and compelling testimonies shared with the study committee illustrate, parents, early childhood professionals, and community leaders are united in their support for investing in quality early learning programs. Ohio must build upon the state’s quality early learning system so that every young child and their family has the opportunity to thrive.

ICYMI: This week, The Columbus Dispatch published an op-ed from Groundwork Ohio President & CEO Shannon Jones sharing key findings from our recent statewide poll on child care and early childhood education. Our poll shows that access to quality, affordable child care is an economic issue that is a necessity to working parents in Ohio.

Tune in Tuesday, February 15 at 6:30pm ET as Shannon joins central Ohio leaders for The Columbus Dispatch's Columbus Conversations digital event on the child care crisis. During the live virtual event, early childhood experts and business and community leaders will discuss how the pandemic has shed light on the importance of quality, affordable child care and why access to quality child care is vital to Ohio's workforce and economy.

Mini-Grant Opportunity from the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood

Strong families are the bedrock of thriving communities. In recognition of the importance of involved, committed, and supportive fathers, the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood has released a new funding opportunity. The commission will award up to 15 mini-grants to nonprofit organizations and/or government entities that host father-child events in June 2022, which is Responsible Fatherhood Month.

Organizations chosen will be reimbursed up to $4,000 for eligible expenses incurred in June 2022. The deadline to apply for this opportunity is Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 4:30 PM EST.
