Local Policymakers for
Young Children & Families
Many local government officials are sounding an alarm: A LACK OF INVESTMENT IN
CHILD CARE IS CREATING A CRISIS.
They understand, from the ground level, that a lack of affordable, accessible child care is detrimental to the development of our youngest children, the strength of our local businesses and economies, and the future of our communities.

How can local leaders increase access to affordable, quality child care?
ACT LOCAL:
Local governments have the power to create environments where families can thrive, economies can grow, and children can reach their fullest potential.
-
Explore investment of locally-held resources into systems that support child care.
-
Use your convening powers to bring a multisector group together to discuss challenges and opportunities.
ADVOCATE STATEWIDE:
Families can’t do it alone. Cities and counties need the State of Ohio to step up and embrace the importance of investment in child care.
-
Fortunately, mayors, county commissioners, and other local government leaders can help influence state government and the budget process, which determines child care funding in our state.
Groundwork Ohio is growing its coalition of local government leaders committed to solving the child care crisis. Together, we can collaborate on local solutions and join forces to ensure the needs of cities and counties are understood at the state level.
