COLUMBUS, OH – In response to Speaker Jason Stephen’s unveiling of the House Republican Caucus priority legislation for the 135th General Assembly, Groundwork Ohio President and CEO Shannon Jones issued the following statement:
"We are thrilled to hear that Speaker Stephens and the House Republican Caucus have prioritized Ohio’s pregnant women and babies through House Bill 7, the Strong Foundations Act. This urgent and necessary focus on a child’s first 1,000 days of life is critical to supporting children and families and securing Ohio’s future. Groundwork looks forward to working with the Ohio House as this bill works its way through the legislative process.”
The bill is co-sponsored by Rep Andrea White and Rep. Latyna Humphrey.
In January 2023, Groundwork Ohio released a first-of-its-kind Early Childhood Dashboard that highlights the critical care needed for pregnant women and infants. The foundation for a healthy life starts early — before a baby is born. Without increased investment and support, some young children and their mothers can face lifelong challenges to their physical and mental health and well-being.
