DETERMINE YOUR ASK
When advocating for an expansive issue like early care and education, it is important to make your desired outcome clear. It is difficult to make headway and track progress for general requests, so try to be as specific as possible.
As you consider what your ask should be, make sure you take into account your audience and current opportunities for influence. Is there an upcoming election, budget process, or relevant vote? It is important to understand where your influence can best be focused at any given time in order to best advance your cause.
Now that you've determined your ask, it's time to figure out how to frame your argument. Move on to Step 4: Know Your Audience to learn more about how to cater your advocacy to your audience.
